It’s been a while since I updated here, about 40 days to be more exact. I haven’t stopped with this project, I’ve just been working on something else for the last month or so. For the last half of last month I was working designing and publishing a site for an open source project. You can find the published site and more info on that project here. It was quite the journey over the span of roughly 3 weeks going from just an idea, to design mocks, to choosing a template, to customizing said template, and finally putting on all the polish that was required to meet the communities expectations.

After a week of running Google Analytics, I’ve finally decided to check on what it has to offer. Looking at the User Attributes Overview under Reports of the dashboard provided by Google Analytics, I can see over the course of the last week I had two visitors from Toronto, Canada and two visitors coming from the US/Russia. Considering the two visitors from Toronto are definitely me looking at my own website on my PC and phone, and the others likely being bots or crawlers, that means literally 0 people have visited my site!

First thing I’m going to do is add Google Analytics to the site. I went and made a Google Analytics account to get the ID needed to pass to the Javascript I need to run on the pages in order to collect analytics for the site. This can then be accomplished in Hugo by adding the predefined template line to a file that says what should go into the header of every single HTML page generated by Hugo.

First project I’m going to tackle that I have been putting off for a long time is this website. I understand since there’s nothing much on this site yet as of the publish date of this entry that this is definitely jumping the gun, but I wanted to see if I could set up some of the more interesting integrations for free. I personally find analytics, contact forms, comments, and donations interesting to set up right off the bat as that will allow me to really get in touch with the people that might come to the site and start getting feedback on what I’m doing.
